Launched in 2012, the Master of Fine Arts program in Creative Writing, Editing, and Publishing is a 48-hour workshop-based residency program with three areas of concentration: fiction, creative non-fiction and poetry. In addition, students gain practical publishing experience through SHSU's Texas Review Press and Texas Review.
While the program centers around the workshop experience, students will be expected to take a significant body of coursework in literature and theory.
"We believe that writers should be readers, and should understand not only the tradition in which they write—why they should study those 'classics,' but also of the time in which they write," says program director Dr. Scott Kaukonen. "We think they should study and be aware of contemporary literature and ideas as well."
