Teaching opportunities
MFA students are offered opportunities to teach 3 different undergrad clases including traditional comp/writing/rhetoric coursework (UNIV200), essay/CNF class (HONRS250) and an undergraduate creative writing course (ENG295)
Editorial opportunities
Graduate teaching assistantship (GTA) assignments may include working for the online literary magazine, Blackbird. One specialized GTA position dedicated to "Managing Editor" position, plus all MFA students may earn up to 6 credits interning for the magazine. Graduate level "literary editing and publishing" coursework also offered as well.
Cross-genre study
In addition to the poetry and fiction workshops, there are courses available that focus on writing drama, nonfiction, and screenplays, as well as courses that provide practical experience in editing. As of 2017, students may pursue of degree in multiple genres by choosing to enroll as a "Dual Genre" concentration.
